The CoLAB Digital Tech Credential program focuses on data analysis, visualization and security and is currently being offered at George Mason University, Virginia Tech, University of Richmond, American University, VCU and Georgetown University for non-STEM students pursuing degrees in non-technical fields such as HR, logistics, liberal arts and finance. Other schools in the region, including Johns Hopkins, Howard University and the University of Virginia, are planning to launch versions of the program.

Use of radiofrequency identification (RFID) to tag breast cancers for surgical excision had similar success as the standard of using wires to mark lesion locations prior to surgery, researchers reported here from a small retrospective study. Dr. Margaret Moore, a pathology resident at the University of Virginia, said that "since these outcome measures are similar, and the patient’s experience is better with RFID, I think that doing it with the new procedure is reasonable."

Kyle Kondik, managing editor of Sabato’s Crystal Ball at the UVA Center for Politics, said the finding is another indicator that Warren has either surpassed Sanders with the Democratic electorate, or is in a good position to do so.

Albemarle County’s development areas have enough capacity for future expected population growth –a in theory. County staff presented a draft growth management report to the Albemarle’s Planning Commission on Tuesday, which included an update of the county’s residential capacity analysis, information on development trends, current development activity and individual development area profiles. In June, the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia projected that Albemarle will have a population of 138,485 in 2040. 
The biggest film festival in the state, the Virginia Film Festival in Charlottesville, has announced its 32nd annual program which will be held Oct. 23-27.  
Award-winning actor, writer and director Ethan Hawke will visit Charlottesville in October for the 32nd annual Virginia Film Festival, according to a lineup announced Tuesday. Hawke will participate in a conversation about his career before a screening of “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead,” in which he co-stars opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman. Hawke is just one of a long list of notable guests who will attend the festival to discuss their work and introduce screenings of critically acclaimed films.
A statewide collaboration aimed at solving community health needs shared its most recent findings at UVA on Tuesday. Experts from the integrated Translational Health Research Institute of Virginia discussed their most recent research topics such as the role of sleep in Alzheimer’s and understanding sudden unexpected death from epilepsy.
