At the heart of the program is the world premiere of “The World Called,” which features music by Virginia composer Adolphus Hailstork and text by University of Virginia Commonwealth Professor of English and former U.S. poet laureate Rita Dove. Michael Slon, the ensemble’s music director, will conduct, and soprano Christina Pier will be the soloist.
There are also many ways for such trainings to go wrong. For instance, when people hear that stereotyping is normal, they may do it more, according to Vanderbilt researchers. More to the point, academics at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Harvard, and the University of Virginia, examining 499 studies over 20 years, found very little evidence that changes in implicit bias have anything to do with changes in a person’s behavior.
The University of Virginia has announced appointments to its President’s Commission on the University in the Age of Segregation. The project, unveiled in February, is meant to pick up seamlessly from the 2013 President’s Commission on Slavery at the University, which, often for the first time, examined the lives and legacies of the hundreds of enslaved workers who toiled on and around Grounds.

Winneba had been home to some of the first peoples in Ghana; during a migration, Northern Africans from the Sahara came south seeking water, and many settled alongside the lagoon at the outskirts of the main city. Today, the lagoon and the fishing village that stands where one of the original villages once stood, Akosua Villa, is a World Heritage Site. The site is maintained in part by the efforts of the UVA Center for Cultural Landscapes at the School of Architecture.

What does the USEA Intercollegiate Eventing Championship mean to each team? Read on below for their responses. University of Virginia: “It is a great opportunity to represent our school and our team. The Intercollegiate Championship also helps us come together as a team and support one another in a sport that is usually an individual competition. Meeting the other teams and riders from across the country who are also balancing school and horses is a really fun part of the competition as well.”
“The 10th is a district that Hillary Clinton carried but has a Republican member of Congress in Barbara Comstock, so it’s a high-level target for Democrats,” said Geoff Skelley at the UVA Center for Politics. “Comstock will, to some degree, probably be hanging on for dear life. She may be able to pull it out. But at the same time, we rate that race as a toss-up.”

Siva Vaidhyanathan, a media studies professor at the University of Virginia, told CNN such a service might make sense if it employed a careful methodology and was overseen by an independent journalism foundation. "It's not a crackpot idea," he said. "The question is why should Elon Musk be the one running it and how trustworthy would it be if he ran it."
The impact on the state’s economy by Virginia Tech Carilion health sciences campus in Roanoke will grow from $214 million today to $465.2 million annually within eight years, according to an economist’s conservative projection. But if he does choose not to run again, that could mean some legwork for the area’s Republicans. “Presumably, that would mean that the 5th District Republican Committee would have to choose some sort of format - whether that's just selecting a replacement themselves or setting up some sort of convention - to replace Garrett since he's already been nominated, would have to be the process,” says Geoffrey Skelley, an analyst at UVA’s Center for Politics.
As Robert Emery, author of “Two Homes, One Childhood” and psychology professor at the University of Virginia, told The Washington Post: “Kids don't count the minutes and the percents, but they sure respond if they have a good relationship with their mom and dad or if they are caught in the middle of a war zone.”
One of the nation’s most acclaimed poets, Rita Dove is the Commonwealth Professor of English at the University of Virginia.
Geoff Skelley, of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, said the center had been informed of Garrett’s potential departure earlier on Wednesday. If Garrett were to drop out of the race, the 5th District Republican Committee would have to select a replacement, Skelley said. “They could do this by committee vote or by hosting a convention,” he said.
Geoffrey Skelley, a political analyst at the University of Virginia Center for Politics, said the center would probably change its rating of the district from “likely Republican” to “leans Republican” if Garrett decides to leave Congress. “It would be tough for Democrats to win, but without an incumbent it would help them,” Skelley said. “The nominee on the GOP side would have to start from scratch.”
