Although most of De. Sally Hudson’s bills did not survive crossover, she did incorporate a piece of legislation into two others that also seek to address medical debt collection. More than 2,000 hospitals have been penalized at least once in the eight years since the Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction Program began. Fifty-five hospitals – including the UVA Medical Center – have been penalized all eight years, according to Kaiser Health News.
UVA Health continues to report a downward trend in COVID-19 hospitalizations. UVA Health currently has 70 COVID-19 patients with 43 adults in acute units. There are 17 patients in the ICU and seven are pediatric patients.
