Now, researchers believe they have found possible indications of an exomoon orbiting a giant, scorching exoplanet in the Lepus constellation, 550 light-years from Earth. Researchers, including the UVA’s Bob Johnson, have previously demonstrated that large quantities of sodium present at exoplanets could suggest the presence of rings or even hidden bodies like moons.
In a separate study published as a working paper, researchers and administrators at another community college took a slightly different approach. This school was worried that students might be borrowing too much and offered loan counseling in text messages. The texts encouraged students to think carefully about how much they borrowed. The college worked with the professors Andrew Barr of Texas A&M and Kelli Bird and Benjamin L. Castleman of the University of Virginia to randomly assign students to receive these texts.
Liz Schwab, Google’s public affairs manager for Virginia, said the company is getting the state, the Virginia Community College System and the University of Virginia’s Nudge Lab to help with collecting and analyzing data so that Google could build something that could be replicated elsewhere.

Four Virginia universities are ranked among the top 100 institutions in the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings, released Thursday. In this year’s ranking, the University of Virginia notched No. 50.

(Subscription required) More than two dozen public schools placed in this year’s top 100 of the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings, with 10 public schools, including the University of Virginia, making the top 50. These schools ranked highly in providing desired outcomes for graduates, despite lacking the resources of many private schools.
Charlottesville activist and writer Zyahna Bryant will complete her first year of studies at UVA while acting as an adviser to Gov. Ralph Northam. Bryant was appointed to the Virginia African-American Advisory Board on Friday.
“You could find lots of examples of candidates who were kind of pilloried as being, quote, ‘unelectable’ who ended up becoming president,” says Kyle Kondik, a political analyst at UVA’s Center for Politics. “Obviously, Donald Trump is a great example of that.”
