Girls from in and around the Charlottesville area are working to break down barriers in science and tech-related fields. On Sunday, they took part in “Ladies in the Lab” to get more familiar with engineering and encourage them to build those skills. Dozens of girls gathered on University of Virginia Grounds to take part in different hands-on workshops taught by different clubs from the University. 
NASA Wallops Flight Facility and Virginia’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport is set to launch an Antares rocket carrying a Cygnus cargo spacecraft to the International Space Station Wednesday. The Virginia Space Grant Consortium has four of member universities: Old Dominion, Virginia Tech, UVA and Hampton. Three student teams designed and developed small satellites, each about 4 inches cubed and weighing approximately 3 pounds.
UVA student actors and are performing their short plays, all written in a day. Over the course of 24 hours, students write, act and perform in original short plays.
This week’s scheduled Antares launch at Wallops Island will carry space satellites engineered and built by Virginia university students. The satellites will rendezvous with the International Space Station, be released by the astronauts and orbit for up to two years. For three years, 140 students from UVA, Virginia Tech and Old Dominion University have been designing and building three small satellites that are now ready for launch.

Bradford Wilcox, a sociology professor and director of the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia, said.
