The push for improved football facilities at Virginia received a boost on Friday on the same day the Cavaliers announced their next head coach. The University of Virginia Board of Visitors approved a request from the athletics department to pull $10.3 million from the "special gift fund" to put towards the planned new football football operations center. The $10.3 million is seen as a jump start for fundraising for the $65 million and 160,000 square foot facility, which is Phase I of the University's Athletics Master Plan.

On Friday, UVA announced the hiring of Tony Elliott, the former Clemson offensive coordinator who helped the Tigers win a pair of national championships and reach the College Football Playoff on six consecutive occasions. “Coach Elliott is a winner, in every sense of the word,” Cavaliers athletic director Carla Williams said in a release announcing Elliott’s hire. “He is known for his character, humility, work ethic, skill set and passion for education.”

The capstone fair will be taking place Dec. 16 at the Thornton Hall National Instruments Engineering Discovery Lab. Examples of projects include a hat that helps the visually impaired sense their surrounding and a device to teach young children how to spell.

UVA School of Medicine students thanked families on Friday night for their vital sacrifices. At a private event, students paid respect to anatomical donors – families who donated the bodies of their loved ones for educational purposes. They shared stories and artwork with the families and said the work is helping to provide hands-on training for future physicians – as well as a confidence boost.
The University of Virginia has released early decision notifications for the Class of 2026. In all, 1,098 students earned admission through the binding Early Decision program out of a pool of 3,500 applicants.
University of Virginia undergraduates will see tuition, room and board and other fees rise over the next two years after the school’s Board of Visitors approved proposed tuition and cost hikes on Friday. The board unanimously agreed to increase tuition by 4.7% for the upcoming 2022-23 school year and by 3.7% for the 2023-24 school year.
