University of Virginia alumnus J. Brady Lum told prospective graduates Saturday that sometimes it's good to just say yes. Lum, president and chief operating officer of the Special Olympics and a 1989 graduate of UVa's College of Arts and Sciences, gave the valedictory address to more than 100 graduates and their families on Saturday.

Increased adoption of electronic health records could help reduce infant mortality in the U.S., according to a study scheduled to be published in the Journal of Political Economy, Healthcare IT News reports. After days of torrential, if intermittent, rain, it looks like University of Virginia students will graduate under clear skies. Preparations are proceeding on schedule, said Associate Director of Maintenance Mike Merriam, who is overseeing graduation setup. “We’ll gladly take a lot of rain Monday through Friday in exchange for beautiful weather on Saturday and Sunday, and that looks like what we’re going to get,” he said.
A popular medicine prescribed to lower cholesterol numbers might be ineffective, according to a study by the University of Virginia. The two-year study shows the drug ezetimibe, often available as Zetia, might not be effective at halting significant artery-wall thickening, or atherosclerosis, in some patients, according to a news release from UVa. Ezetimibe is routinely prescribed with statin therapy to help reduce high levels of LDL cholesterol, also known as “bad cholesterol,” in patients, the release said.
