On Tuesday, the University of Virginia president welcomed the freshman class at the Fall Convocation at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
Margy Caccia started using College Coach, a division of Bright Horizons, when her daughter, Elizabeth, was a high school sophomore and their son, Joe, was a junior. Elizabeth is now a graduate of the University of Virginia and Joe is in his second year at James Madison University. Margy, a Virginia teacher and her husband, a lawyer, found it helpful to have an independent third party in the mix. “Having another adult talk to them about their future just seemed to really work and provided an opportunity for our kids to be spoken to as young adults."
UVA's Institute for Environmental Negotiation, headed by director Frank Dukes with the university's School of Architecture started forming partnerships with local leaders in March 2011. As a result, they have come up with five relevant policy categories for the Beach, including education outreach, special taxes and updated zoning codes.

Tom Giedgowd Darden School of Business ‘12 A University of Virginia graduate has created a high-tech toy that's taking play pals to a new level. Tom Giedgowd graduated this past May from UVA's Darden School of Business, and is the creator of TeeGee. He says it is the "smartest stuffed animal in the universe."
“A lot of people are paying attention to U.Va. now because of what happened here this past summer,” Sullivan said. “This means that we have the opportunity to model for the rest of the country, not just how a university survives, but how it can even thrive facing the challenges.”
For the first time since her dismissal and subsequent reinstatement, UVa. President Teresa Sullivan held a press conference at Carrs Hill, her home on the university grounds.
The Solid Waste Association of America recognized UVA last Tuesday with its Bronze Excellence Award.  The state of Virginia requires agencies to recycle at least 25 percent of their waste.  UVA almost doubled that amount in 2011.
UVa spokeswoman Carol Wood said the university takes the issue “very seriously” and has multiple offices and initiatives in place to help students understand what’s expected of them when living in city neighborhoods. “We want our students to be good neighbors,” Wood said
