In the unfortunate closing of the University of Virginia Kluge Children’s Rehabilitation Center, one sees a microcosm of many of the issues afflicting health care — or advancing it, depending on your point of view. The in-patient portion of the rehab center will shut down in September. At that point, in-patients older than age 15 will be shifted to new beds in the main Medical Center upon the opening of its new wing. Hospital officials say this constitutes the majority of patients, adding that they will be cared for in a facility even better than the KCRC.

This weekend a visit to the park could save a life. The Annual Community Health Fair kicks off Saturday at Booker T. Washington Park in Charlottesville. The health fair is sponsored by the UVA Medical Center, Martha Jefferson Hospital, and the Virginia Department of Health.  Healthcare providers will offer hearing, vision, and blood pressure screenings.
