The University of Virginia School of Law is digitizing tens of thousands of documents from the Military Tribunal for the Far East, informally known as the Tokyo War Crimes trial following World War II.
The University of Virginia bypassed a scheduled three-week jury trial by settling its $47 million civil suit against a health care software company out of court this week. UVa entered into an agreement with IDX Systems Corporation in 1999 to develop an integrated health care information management system. The rector and Board of Visitors filed a complaint against the company in Charlottesville Circuit Court in February 2009, claiming that IDX Systems breached the terms of the contract.
A UVa student has died after a wreck on her way home from school. Julia Elisabeth Green died in a single car crash on Route 29 over the weekend. She was a member of the class of 2015 and a Spanish major. A memorial service is planned for Saturday in Fairfax.

To paraphrase an old commercial: It doesn\'t get any bigger than this. And University of Virginia science is right there in the thick of the action. "It" is the Higgs boson, a subatomic particle that may catapult quantum science into an understanding of the nature of matter. Brad Cox is a physics professor at the University of Virginia and a member of one of two independent teams that, on July 4, presented evidence of the discovery of the Higgs boson.

Thousands of athletes sport scars from Dr. Frank McCue's renowned surgical handiwork. Far more indelible are their memories of Doc McCue the gentleman, cowboy and friend. As the athletic department's physician from 1961-2003, McCue treated and, most important, bonded with countless young people. And when news of his death broke Sunday, tributes flowed immediately.
Waiting for an important, uncontrollable outcome in life may lead people to do good deeds with the implicit expectation that the universe will return the favor, a phenomenon they refer to as "investing in karma," a new research suggests. According to lead researcher Benjamin Converse, assistant professor of public policy and psychology at the University of Virginia, the research was inspired by the kinds of deals many of us seem to make in which we promise ourselves that, if we can just make it through some trying situation, we'll be better citizens in the future.
