The words came unexpectedly at the end of Mike London’s meeting with Virginia football media on Wednesday. When the Cavaliers’ head coach was asked about the biggest mark he had made on the program heading into his second season, we were all flattened by the response. What followed was a short but passionate reply about who Mike London is and what he’s all about and one of the men that he owes all of his success to, his father. Moments later, when we talked to other coaches and players, it was clearly obvious of how they felt about London and the way he has gone about rebuild...
Germanna Community College's associate's degree program in engineering is a feeder for the University of Virginia, making four-year diplomas in that important and lucrative field more affordable and accessible. To compete with emerging economic powers such as China and India, America must increase the number of engineers it graduates.
Faced with an increasing stream of data from the Web and other electronic sources, many companies are seeking managers who can make sense of the numbers through the growing practice of data analytics, also known as business intelligence. Finding qualified candidates has proven difficult, but business schools hope to fill the talent gap. The University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce has been working with data-warehousing company Teradata Corp. for years to make analytics a bigger part of students' curriculum.
Momentum for business schools to accept the Graduate Record Examination test, mainly used by graduate-school applicants in the social sciences and humanities, is building as those schools aim to attract less traditional applicants. Today more than 600 business schools worldwide, including the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business, accept GRE scores in addition to the GMAT.
Since 2008, Teach for America has compiled a "top contributors list" to rank schools of similar size by the number of students who are accepted into the program. Several Washington-area schools were also near the top of the lists, including the University of Virginia with 66.

The employees are enrolled in the school's Darden/Curry Partnership for Leaders in Education "School Turnaround Specialist Program," a collaborative effort between the business and education programs of the university that help experienced teachers and principals manage the fault lines of the school turnaround process.
The University of Virginia's financial aid program is ranked the best in the nation among public universities, according to the Princeton Review.
Our annual ranking of the 650 best undergraduate institutions focuses on the things that matter the most to students: quality of teaching, great career prospects, graduation rates and low levels of debt. A National Public Radio program produced right here in Charlottesville is expanding its reach thanks to a major influx of money. Listeners in 39 states tune in to the show: "BackStory With the American History Guys". BackStory tells the history behind the headlines. Three history professors, including two from the University of Virginia, cover a range of topics in the hour-long public radio show, from the Civil War, to health care and the credit crunch.

This week I had the opportunity to get a demo of a new crowdsourcing tool developed at the University of Virginia. The project is dubbed Crowdsourcing the Crisis and is the result of a collaboration between the University’s School of Medicine and Computer Science department with funding provided by a Department of Defense grant. They have created a tool that enables the crowd to help authorities make a decision on whether to evacuate citizens in the event of a crisis.
