The University of Virginia's School of Architecture has launched the Center for Design and Health to advance the planning of patient-oriented facilities and healthy neighborhoods and cities.
“Developing more entrepreneurs is critical to the future of Southern Virginia,” said Danville Regional Foundation president Karl Stauber. With that attitude the foundation partnered with the University of Virginia to bring the Certificate in Entrepreneurship program to Danville in March. And Thursday, 19 people with lofty business goals were presented with their certificates.
It’s worth remembering that not so long ago, the phrases “University of Virginia” and “baseball powerhouse” went together only in moaning jest. Yet today UVA is a legitimate baseball powerhouse, and a May 14 game against Miami demonstrated why Head Coach Brian O’Connor has been so doggone successful.
While the University of Virginia men’s tennis team disappointed in this year’s national championships and the top-seeded baseball team has yet to play in its tournament, the spotlight now shines solely on Dom Starsia’s lacrosse players — surprise winners of the NCAA national title.

Research strongly links anesthesia to brain deficits in children. According to a Pediatric Anesthesia Neurotoxicity Panel, led by Dr. Vesna Jevtovic-Todorovic, professor of anesthesiology and neuroscience at the University of Virginia Health System, infants and children who undergo procedures requiring anesthesia could experience learning disabilities, memory problems, ADHD and cognitive difficulties.
There is one telling number to judge the strength of a school's alumni network: the percentage of graduates who give money to a school every year. Here are the schools with the most alumni donors. … And after Tuck? It's Yale University's School of Management, which last year saw 46 percent of its MBA alums reach into their pockets to donate money to the school; the University of Virginia's Darden School, the beneficiary of a 43 percent alumni giving rate last year; and the Stanford Graduate School of Business, which reported a 41 percent participation rate by MBA alums.
