Meanwhile, faculty members at Austin have been in touch with their counterparts at the University of Virginia, where furious protests from professors, students, and alumni helped get Teresa A. Sullivan reinstated as president in June 2012, two weeks after she was pressured to resign. "I’m interested in knowing what strategies the UVa faculty used to form a united front that was so effective in her reappointment," said Andrea C. Gore, chair-elect of the UT flagship’s Faculty Council.
Of the world’s leading 50 business schools, few immediately jumped on the online MBA bandwagon. Some of the early movers are seen as second-tier schools. Harvard, MIT Sloan, the University of Virginia’s Darden School and other big-brand US schools have only relatively recently begun experimenting with MOOCs. Wharton was one of the first. There are as much as 10% of its two-year MBA core courses online for free access. One enrolled more than 130,000 students.
“In the wake of the BNP criminal plea, a ‘restitution and remediation agreement’ seems to be a new synonym for a non-prosecution agreement,” said University of Virginia Law Professor Brandon Garrett.  “But a non prosecution by another name is still a non prosecution.”
They might hang onto that technological lead for a while, according to University of Virginia political scientist Larry Sabato. But probably not forever. "Mobilization begets countermobilization," Sabato said in an interview. "It's a fundamental principle of politics. The leadership in campaign technology often moves back and forth between the parties, often depending on which party is more desperate."
Larry Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, said Land’s efforts to separate herself from her husband’s millions — which helped finance her past political campaigns — could be a strategic move to insulate herself from a populist blowback toward the wealthy. “When people see a candidate being worth millions and millions of dollars, they can’t identify with that,” Sabato said.
Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, said the surveys could be an inconvenience at best for Democrats in red states. “Once you get gun control on the agenda, it opens the door for the NRA to push back harder,” Sabato said. “It matters whether an issue is visible in a state and, therefore, part of the calculus for voters.”
Rajkumar Venkatesan is a professor of business administration at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business. In his view, EEI's effort is part of the growing conventional wisdom about establishing good will to be prepared before a catastrophic event.
Does the idea of sitting alone in a room for 15 minutes doing absolutely nothing sound like pure bliss or unimaginable torture? Many participants in a new study out of the University of Virginia agreed on the latter, as researchers concluded that today's society has become increasingly averse to the notion of stillness.
I must be honest with you, readers: I was skeptical. About approximately everything in this study and also the value of said study. What did we learn here, really? So I called up David Reinhard, a doctoral candidate at the University of Virginia and one of the study’s authors. What was the point of this study, exactly?
This time, we’ll look at a tool that will help you get a realistic view of what it takes to grow your business. I can’t take the credit for the GRAT, that belongs to Edward D. Hess of the University of Virginia.  But I can at least show you a little of how it works.  The following list of questions are all part of the tool, and are too complex to be able to answer quickly, but when done, the GRAT should help you decide what your growth will be, what you need to worry about, when to grow, and how far to push the gas before letting up and coasting.
Academics from the University of Virginia have confirmed what many suspected: Those who are "cool" in school might not do as well later in life.
Changes are coming to Culpeper Regional Hospital. Plans for the University of Virginia Health System to take on primary ownership are moving forward next week. The new partnership began back in February, and at this point leaders are preparing for public feedback. If all goes as planned, UVA will become the full owner of the Culpeper hospital, which they say should mean enhanced service and care for patients.
Dr. Thomas Platts-Mills, a medical detective, uncovered the cause of these delayed allergic reactions. The culprit is a lone star tick (Amblyomma americanum). The tick's bite can trigger a chain reaction that results in allergic reactions three to seven hours after eating meat (beef, pork, lamb or other mammals).
Dr. Max Weder, who has done over 400 lung transplants, about 20 to 25 per year, said Henry has had one of the best recoveries he’s ever witnessed. He attributes that, in part, to Henry taking good care of himself before and after the transplant.
Changes are in store over the next few years for the advising system at the University of Virginia. The university is attempting an overhaul that would help match students with classes and internships based on career aspirations, rather than academic majors, said Archie Holmes, associate provost at UVa. ... Holmes said a lot of the changes — part of a complete package the administration calls “Total Advising” — have to do with putting students in touch with opportunities already on Grounds.
