A study out of the University of Virginia examining the prevalence of sexual side effects among antidepressant users reveals that while the drug classes known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors were associated with a higher rate of sexual dysfunction, other antidepressants were associated with significantly lower rates, namely bupropion and nefazodone. These data suggest that sexual dysfunction may be related to serotonergic antidepressant therapy.
Business professors are great at writing jargon-filled, hard-to-digest research papers. But every once and a while, they knock it out of the park with the general public. At the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, the year’s best-selling case study focused on a Best Buy HR manager in Texas who sought to boost sales to Latinos. The case shows how the manager proposed to quantify for her bosses the financial return of using Rosetta Stone to teach the sales staff Spanish.

The world’s population is soaring past 7 billion. Food prices keep spiking every few years. Freshwater supplies in plenty of areas are dwindling. And so, in response, a slew of countries and investors — from Chinese state corporations to Gulf sheiks to Wall Street firms — have started buying up farmland overseas, in an apparent attempt to acquire as much precious soil and water as possible. This phenomenon is known as “land grabbing,” and it has been accelerating ever since the massive surge in grain prices back in 2007. So how much land and water is actually...
Will the Government's Protection of Freedoms Act lead to an increase in murders, rapes and other serious crimes? New research from the United States suggests it might. Last month Jennifer Doleac, assistant professor of public policy and economics at the University of Virginia, published a paper entitled The Effects of DNA Databases on Crime, which suggested that size matters: "larger DNA databases reduce crime rates."

Researchers at U.Va. also use a virtual reality driving simulator. But their research has a slightly different focus. Which is better for an ADHD teen – a manual or automatic? Research shows that when the teen has to concentrate on changing gears and other manual tasks, concentration and attention improve and they drive better and more safely. The research was led here by Prof. Dan Cox, Professor of Psychiatric Medicine.

Kaine, D-Va., who was governor when a student killed 32 other students, faculty and himself at Virginia Tech. Those around the table also included University of Virginia professor Richard Bonnie; ...
(Commentary by Darden professor Ed Hess) Any entrepreneur knows that when it comes to running a business, your work is never done. From the moment you wake up in the morning until you go to sleep at night, you’re worrying, planning for the future, and more often than not, putting out fires. The best way to keep these flames from permanently harming your business is to "leave a fire extinguisher behind" after putting out each fire. Do so and you’ll turn each one of them into an opportunity to improve.

But in the latest population estimates from the Weldon-Cooper Center, Staunton led the pack, with growth since the 2010 Census almost 50 percent higher than the state average.

He chaired a state commission on mental health law reform that began meeting in October 2006.
