Researchers at The University of Virginia are trying to figure out how a single tick bite can cause people to suddenly develop an allergy to red meat.
Nearly 500 school officials from across Virginia are expected to attend a conference on bullying prevention next week. University of Virginia clinical psychologist Dewey Cornell says the conference also will cover legal and practical issues for schools.

In a time of conflict over forests, waterways and mountains, U.Va.'s Institute for Environmental Negotiation is celebrating resolution and awarding leading environmental peacemakers for their work. In a randomized trial conducted at U.Va. and seven other sites throughout the country, 140 methamphetamine addicts were given either the drug topiramate or a placebo. The study found the medicine, used to break alcohol addiction, also may reduce the amount of methamphetamine a person takes and reduce relapse rates in those who have quit the drug.

The University of Virginia will reduce the electricity it draws from the power grid from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.
