In 2003, Dr. May was recruited to the 9/11 Commission by Philip Zelikow, whom Dr. May had encouraged to lead the commission. Mark E. Fletcher, who built one of the nation’s top intramural and recreational sports programs at the University of Virginia, died Monday after returning from his morning run. He was 57. Fletcher was associate director of athletics and executive director of intramural/recreational sports.
