Nearly nine years ago, a Bethesda real estate investor, William C. Eacho Jr., pledged $1.4 million to his alma mater, the University of Virginia, to start a women's golf program. Called SpermCheck Vasectomy, the test measures a protein called SP-10 that is present in each sperm head. ... Herr and his colleagues identified the SP-10 protein.
... A recent analysis of 225 DNA exonerations by Brandon L. Garrett, a professor at the University of Virginia School of Law, found that prosecutors opposed DNA testing in almost one out of five cases. In many of the others, they initially opposed testing but ultimately agreed to it. In 98 of those 225 cases, the DNA test identified the real culprit.

WISE, Va. – Gloomy economy and shrinking job market aside, the future offers reason for optimism, Gov. Timothy Kaine told the Class of 2009 at the University of Virginia College at Wise. “You’ve taught me to be more optimistic about tomorrow,” Kaine told the 299 graduates at Carl Smith Stadium on Saturday.
