A thousand watts brighter: That's how the 2007-08 season looks for University of Virginia men's basketball now that Sean Singletary has decided to return for his senior year. ...Singletary was named The Times-Dispatch's state player of the year each of the past two seasons. He'll be touted as an ACC player-of-the-year candidate in 2007-08 and could become only the third Cavalier to make the all-conference first team three times.
...Because the point guard position is the most important in college basketball, to have one of Singletary's ilk automatically raises a team's quality by several notches. The fact that the Philadelphia native is such a competitor, such a tough kid with lots of heart and delivers leadership to boot, well, it doesn't get much better than that.
For some, Monica Goodling has become the face of Regent University's law school. And therein lies the challenge for its administrators and students. Though bar pass rates have doubled since 2000 and the school has beefed up its academic standards, Regent Law is reaping wider, but less glorious, fame from Goodling, a 1999 graduate being questioned by Congress for her role in a Justice Department scandal. ...U.S. News & World Report does compile rankings annually, and Regent hasn't fared well in those reports. The 2008 edition of U.S. News & World Report's guide to 184 law schools puts Regent in...
...You think Wahoo Nation was just a bit excited about the news that Sean Singletary - after a lengthy deliberation - had elected to put the NBA on hold and return to Virginia for his senior season? Oh yeah, Cavaliers coach Dave Leitao was pretty pumped, too. 'Obviously I'm delighted that Sean has decided to return to Virginia for his final year," Leitao said in a press release. 'He means so much to our team, and I'm pleased he'll be with us this coming season.
A few weeks ago, the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia brought together some big thinkers to discuss the future of American foreign policy, and guess what? They couldn't agree. They couldn't agree on whether China would replace the U.S. as the world's leading power. They couldn't agree on whether Islamic extremism would be central or peripheral in the years ahead. They couldn't agree on the significance of America's unpopularity. But there were two competing papers that illuminated most of the issues roiling to and fro. (TimesSelect account required. Free to anyone...
