Thousands from the UVa and Charlottesville community gathered tonight, fighting back tears, to remember those lives lost in Monday's tragedy. Some lit candles, others embraced, all searching for a way to make it through these trying times.
Students at the University of Virginia are publicly showing their support for Virginia Tech on one of the most well known landmarks. On Beta Bridge, along Rugby Road, are the words "Hoos for Hokies." It is a phrase you'd likely never see here but under these circumstances students at UVA look at Virginia Tech as family. A fund has been set up through the UVA Alumni Association called 'Hoos for Hokies' to which you can donate money to go towards a fund or memorial at Virginia Tech.
The University of Virginia's College at Wise held a memorial service for the Virginia Tech community on Tuesday, and students are planning a candlelight vigil for 8 p.m. Thursday at the campus lake. Students, faculty and other college staffers attended a brief prayer service Tuesday at the college's Chapel of All Faiths with UVa-Wise Chancellor David J. Prior and the Revs. Jim Collie and Beth Tipton presiding.
Ripples from the Tech shootings spread across campuses in Virginia. ...The University of Virginia held an afternoon memorial service, and at a candlelight vigil at McIntire Amphitheatre last night, second-year student Sterling Elmore said most U.Va. students have ties to Tech. The world stopped for a few minutes Tuesday at the University of Virginia as the Chapel bells tolled in remembrance of those slain in Blacksburg. The bells sounded their long, somber tones at 2 p.m. sharp, to coincide with Virginia Tech's own memorial service. No advance instructions had been sent out as to what was to happen when the bells sounded, but at least 200 UVa students, faculty and staff in the vicinity didn't need to be told what to do.
One of the victims of the massacre at Virginia Tech has ties to this area. An University of Virginia adjunct professor of orthopedics was killed. Kevin Granata's office was room 307 on the third floor of Norris Hall. That is where the second shooting took place on Monday. Granata was a professor at UVa from 1997 to 2003 and then he joined the staff at Virginia Tech. He kept a position at UVa as adjunct professor. His coworkers describe him as a dedicated researcher, an excellent professor, a model scientist and a devoted father of three. They said they will be planning a memorial service to ho...

...In Charlottesville, the University of Virginia will hold a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. in the McIntire Amphitheatre, and the UVa chapel bells will toll for five minutes in remembrance of those killed and injured. The bells will also ring for five minutes starting at 2 p.m. today, to coincide with Tech's ceremony in Blacksburg. UVa President John Casteen reported in a message to the UVa community Monday that Caleb Euhus, a student from Lynchburg, wrote a poem Monday titled "Tech Wind."
