A new study at UVa shows a decline in the return of 18 to 24-year-olds to smaller counties. This means trouble for rural counties trying to replace retiring workers. The problem is urgent in 11 counties. At least one quarter of the workforce is expected to reach retirement age by 2016.
The 13th Annual Virginia Festival of the Book kicked off Wednesday. Organizers say the festival gets bigger each year; last year's festival had a record breaking attendance of over 26,000 people, with visitors from 35 states and five countries. At this year's festival there are 200 different events between now and Sunday, including panels on mystery, fiction, sports, romance, and more.

A self-defense class is being offered by the UVA Women's Center starting this Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The six-week course is part of the National Rape Aggression Defense Program.
