Students who enroll in engineering programs at Central Virginia Community College soon will be able to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia without leaving Lynchburg, college officials announced Monday... The program, which begins in the fall, will allow students to earn an engineering associate's degree at CVCC and then qualify for third-year entry into UVa's School of Engineering and Applied Science. Those courses, though, can still be taken at CVCC, allowing students to earn a UVa bachelor's degree while still in Lynchburg.
[...] Of the 65 colleges and universities with teams in the men's tournament, 41 had graduated more than half of the basketball players who entered their institutions from 1996 through 1999, using the NCAA-derived Graduation Success Rate.

The outbreak of mumps at the University of Virginia can be traced to a strain of the virus that came into the United States from Japan in June 2006, health officials suspect. Lilian Peake, health director for the Thomas Jefferson Health District, said DNA analysis completed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows a similarity to the "G1" mumps strain from Japan.
If you're looking for a ticket to see the Wahoos play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, you might be out of luck. Tickets went on sale online at 9:00 Sunday night. But most were only available to donors of the Virginia Athletics Foundation. Out of 550 tickets about 30 tickets will go to students who are chosen through a lottery system.
When Robert Stilling, a doctoral candidate in English at the University of Virginia, began a research project last summer on poet Robert Frost, he expected, perhaps, to squeeze out a term paper or two from his research-not to be tossed under a media spotlight brighter than most scholars see in a lifetime.
[...] While there is some scientific disagreement as to how an individual's particular set of prejudices is developed, all seem to agree that, once implanted in our subconscious, prejudices can never be removed. If, as I did, you find that hypothesis difficult to accept, I suggest that you take what is called an "Implicit Association Test." There are a number of these developed as part of a joint research project at The University of Virginia, Harvard and The University of Washington. ...They will accurately identify your unconscious prejudices.

All that Hideki Inoue had to do was pick the correct one of two identical briefcases, and the first-year graduate student at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business would win a semester's worth of tuition, $17,500. The Deal or No Deal-like contest was created by two business-administration professors, Phillip E. Pfeifer and Samuel E. Bodily. "It's an opportunity for the students to learn about risk in a situation that's real and that has significant money involved," as opposed to hypothetical class situations, says Mr. Bodily.
