Older adults are likelier than their young counterparts to make mistakes in memory, and are also more likely to insist that they are right, a University of Virginia study suggests. Researchers say the study, "I Misremember It Well: Why Older Adults are Unreliable Eyewitnesses," could have further implications when it comes to reliability of witnesses in courts.

On Thursday the Miller Center remembered Arthur Schlesinger. Schlesinger was mainly known for his work as a historian and as a writer, earning a Pulitzer before he was 30 years-old. Among other accomplishments and roles, Schlesinger was also part of the Kennedy Administration. At the Miller Center he served as a member of the Presidential Recordings Advisory Board.
As the final seconds ticked down on Thursday night at John Paul Jones Arena, the scene was raucous. A near-capacity crowd was going bonkers. Fans were screaming, chanting, jumping up and down. The celebration of a win over an arch rival had definitely begun. Amid the pandemonium, Virginia coach Dave Leitao substituted for J.R. Reynolds and Jason Cain. When his two seniors got to the bench, Leitao - a coach not usually known for his warm human spirit in the heat of battle - hugged his players. Then he turned to the students seated behind him and pointed at Reynolds and Cain. That incited an ...
UVa Center Begins Support Initiative / Volunteers Will Provide Assistance for Sexual Assault Victims
The University of Virginia Women's Center has launched an initiative to help UVa students recover from sexual assault. The Survivor Support Team, composed of four UVa student volunteers, will provide long-term companionship and advocacy for survivors during recovery from their assault. The volunteers will serve as a friend to the victim when the victim is faced with emotional challenges, such as encountering her attacker on campus. The volunteers will also provide support for the victim as the case works its way through the criminal justice or university adjudication systems.

The exhibit, titled "The Changing Face of Medicine: Celebrating America's Women Physicians," will run from today until April 13 at the Claude Moore Health Services Library, 1300 Jefferson Park Ave. To mark the opening of the exhibit, the medical school will host a panel discussion of three female UVa physicians who have "influenced and enhanced" the practice of medicine. Virginia's nursing shortage is growing, and Gov. Timothy M. Kaine came to the University of Virginia nursing school yesterday to say that help -- in the form of money -- is on the way. "The shortage is both nationwide and statewide," Kaine told about 100 people at U.Va. "But there are a lot of people who want to be nurses." Kaine said the "choke point" was in the lack of nursing school space and faculty.
The John Paul Jones Arena at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville was recently named Best New Concert Venue at the 18th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles. Designed by Ellerbe Becket and VMDO Architects and managed by SMG, the basketball and concert facility opened in August 2006. Since that opening date, the venue has served up some big names in the entertainment industry, among them the Dave Matthews Band, Eric Clapton, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and George Strait. Billy Joel and Rod Stewart have upcoming shows scheduled. The 16,000 seat arena is the first f...
With today's rapid change, thinking out side the box isn't so much the issue as managing continual box meltdown. Employers seek managers who innovate on the run, combining ideas and concepts from across the planet to create solutions and strategies. Recognizing that young executives often get pigeon-holed as accountants or human resource managers, the University of Virginia's Darden Business School urges MBA candidates to take "Global Business Experience" classes. The courses include one seemingly incongruous week in Barcelona, Spain, studying the art of Picasso, Dalí and Gaudí.
A Cosmic graffiti artist has been caught in the act by astronomers. New research suggests that the icy particles spewed from Saturn's moon Enceladus sandblast other nearby moons, making them unusually bright. Dr. Anne Verbiscer of the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, and colleagues describe in the journal Science how they measured the reflectivity, or "albedo," of the saturnian satellites and conclude that a blasting of these particles, ultimately from Enceladus' plumes, made Tethys, Mimas, Dione and Rhea more shiny than they should otherwise have been.
