The path from nomination to becoming a Supreme Court justice resembles a campaign trail, Associate Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. told University of Virginia students yesterday. Alito told hundreds of students enrolled in U.Va.'s entry-level politics class about the media scrutiny and political glad-handing that his nomination entailed.
President John Casteen delivered his State of the University Address at the University of Virginia Wednesday. Casteen told the crowd the university has made great strides in increasing the diversity of the student body. He also talked about faculty and student accomplishments and construction of new buildings and programs.

Federal Loan Limits for Undergraduate Students Would Increase by $7,500 Under Bush Proposal Chronicle of Higher Education / February 7 The Bush administration has proposed increasing the limit on what college students can borrow from the federal government over their undergraduate careers by $7,500, the first such increase since 1992. Educator Jacqueline Jordan Irvine will address the topic at 4 p.m. in the Rotunda Dome Room. Irvine is a professor of urban education at Emory University and serves as the director for the Center For Urban Learning/Teaching and Urban Research in Education and Schools. The speech is part of UVA's Walter Ridley Distinguished Lecture Series and is open to the public.

Hobbling on a bad ankle adorned with a medical boot, the CNBC talk-show host looked to be in pain as he walked into the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business Tuesday. Cramer, also the author of several books, is in town to host an episode of "Mad Money with Jim Cramer," a financial show where Cramer's television personality has both boosted CNBC's ratings and drawn ire from a few outspoken critics.
