Hanan Ashrawi, a veteran senior official in the Palestine Liberation Organization, announced her resignation Wednesday, saying the Palestinian political system needs “renewal and reinvigoration.” Ashrawi, a member of the PLO’s decision-making executive committee who holds a doctorate in comparative literature from the University of Virginia, is a fluent English speaker who has been a prominent spokeswoman for the Palestinian cause in the global media for decades.
A family dealing with its own pandemic struggles has stepped up to give back to those who need it most in Charlottesville. “With quarantine happening and people out of school, a lot of families are going without, and with children at home a lot of folks aren’t able to work. “The question is what McConnell thinks is in his interest that Biden is proposing,” said Larry Sabato, director of UVA’s Center for Politics, who believes McConnell will support one more stimulus. “He wants to pass one thing, so he can keep pointing to it and say he reached a compromise.”
Scott Gest, a University of Virginia professor, says: “People talk about negative peer influence … but they neglect the pretty substantial literature that shows a lot of negative behavior of high school kids is discouraged by friends. There is a lot of very positive pressure that peers apply, like, ‘No man, that’s stupid.’”
Google and Facebook want to be the platforms where people are having timely conversations, said Siva Vaidhyanathan at the University of Virginia. “Their goal is to matter.
