William Faulkner once famously wrote, “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” So it is with the American Civil War, and a new center at UVA will examine the conflict in all aspects – and how it continues to influence us today.
The new “Cavaliers Collect” exhibition includes diverse pieces from every century of art history and many countries around the globe, brought together by the common alma mater of their owners. Included: works by Pablo Picasso – and Bob Dylan.
The Fralin Museum of Art will feature works of Chinese painters spanning more than five centuries in "Ancient Masters in Modern Styles: Chinese Ink Paintings from the 16th-21st Centuries." The exhibition, which opens Friday, demonstrates a rich variety of Chinese ink painting and the continuing relevance of tradition to Chinese artists today.
