May 20, 2009 — Are you up for a challenge that could change your life? If do, you might want to look into this summer's "Healthy 'Hoos Challenge."
Classes will help show participants how to develop healthy eating habits and establish effective exercise routines that promote safe weight loss and lifelong physical fitness. Classes will be held at the Aquatic and Fitness Center on Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 8:15 a.m. on for eight weeks beginning June 15.
Cost is $75 for members, $85 for non-members. Registration begins May 26 and can be done online or by calling 924-3791.
The program will be based loosely on the popular TV show, "Biggest Loser," and will consist of small-group training two times per week and weekly interaction with a dietitian.
Participants will be given a punch card with goals and tasks that must be completed in order to earn points. Participants also will be expected to attend group exercise classes, work with a registered dietitian on a food diary and complete weekly team challenges.
All of these activities will earn the team points, and the team with the most points at the end of the program will win the challenge.
The program's main goal is to help participants take steps toward living a healthier life. IM-Rec staff will facilitate this by providing the tools participants need to be successful after the program ends.
