Aug. 4, 2009 — Former University of Virginia architecture professor Thomas L. Schumacher, 67, an expert on Italian architecture of the 1930s and most recently a professor at the University of Maryland's architecture school, died July 15 of brain cancer at Sibley Memorial Hospital. He lived in Washington, DC. Schumacher, who had a private practice, began teaching full-time at Princeton University, moved to U.Va. in 1978 and then to Maryland in 1984.
