February 18, 2011 — Jay Hertel, associate professor of kinesiology in the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education, will receive the Medal for Distinguished Athletic Training Research, the National Athletic Training Association's highest award honoring research in the field, at the organization's spring conference.
In addition, Hertel was named the inaugural Educator of the Year by the Virginia Athletic Trainers' Association. The award is presented to an athletic training faculty member who is considered by his or her peers to be an invaluable member of the athletic training community in Virginia.
