November 18, 2008 — The University of Virginia's Curry School of Education offers the community the opportunity to have children work with reading and writing tutors enrolled as students in its Master of Teaching program.
Tutoring is available for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, and includes instruction in fluency; comprehension; phonics, spelling and vocabulary; and writing. Weekly one-on-one tutoring sessions are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m.
The entire spring semester of 26 tutoring sessions costs $325. Tutors work closely with a clinical supervisor who is already a reading specialist to develop an intensive individualized instructional program for each child.
To enroll a child, contact Bobbie Gallo at 434-924-0916 or mcguffey@virginia.edu. The application deadline is Dec. 5.
