Sept. 28, 2007 — The featured speakers at the 14th Virginia Festival of the Book, March 26-30, 2008, have been announced, along with news that patrons will be able to purchase tickets online.
Festival Luncheon: Thursday, March 27, 11:45 a.m.
Jan Karon, author of the best-selling Mitford series novels featuring Father Timothy Kavanaugh, located in a fictional town on the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, will speak at this event. Karon will publish the first in a new series, “Home to Holly Springs: The First of the Father Tim Novels,” this month. She has also written three children’s books. Currently 30 million Mitford books are in print.
Crime Wave Luncheon: Saturday, March 29, noon
David Ignatius, author of “Body of Lies,” is an associate editor and columnist for the Washington Post, and is the guest speaker at this luncheon. A Middle East correspondent, he has covered the Justice Department and the CIA. He and Fareed Zakaria of Newsweek cohost PostGlobal, an online discussion of international issues. Ignatius has also written five other suspense novels. “Body of Lies” is currently being filmed, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe.

Eric Abrahamson co-wrote, with David H. Freedman, “A Perfect Mess: The Hidden Benefits of Disorder — How Crammed Closets, Cluttered Offices, and On-the-Fly Planning Make the World a Better Place.” He is the guest speaker at the breakfast and is the youngest-ever full professor of management at Columbia University’s School of Business. He is also author of “Change Without Pain: How Managers Can Overcome Initiative Overload, Organization Chaos and Employee Burnout.”
