June 20, 2006 -- A collaboration involving five schools and seven departments at the University of Virginia has resulted in a complete revamping of the University Human Resources Web site, which launched June 19.
The redesign of the site incorporated more than 100 suggestions offered by participants in five focus groups that were conducted expressly to obtain ideas for making the site easier to navigate.
“It was an awesome experience to work with so many individuals around Grounds on this project,” said Gary Helmuth, director of Information Management and Technologies for UHR. “We are especially grateful for the work of Nancy Tramontin and her Web Communications staff, who helped us achieve a look and feel and functionality that is now consistent with other U.Va. Web pages.”

The redesigned site contains five new features:
- “Explore U.Va. & Charlottesville” — an overview of the region’s distinctive characteristics to help with the recruitment of prospective employees who may not be familiar with Charlottesville.
- Improved navigation scheme — a user-friendly system for finding job openings, benefits information, training opportunities and other information, such as forms employees need to complete following a major life event, such as a marriage or the birth of a child.
- Toolbox — with direct links to many of the functions, services and most-used tools offered by UHR.
- Latest news, announcements and memos — with archived links to older news and announcements for easy reference.
- “Search UHR” — powered by the Google™ search engine.
