Last November, only five days after former Penn State football assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was arrested and arraigned on 40 criminal counts of sexually assaulting eight boys over a 15-year period, University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan opened the school's board of visitors meeting with a promise. Speaking as both a university leader and a mother, Sullivan vowed to continue her review of the safeguards and oversight in place to protect children on the school's grounds. "I want UVa to learn from negative events that happen at any university," she said.
