April 30 is 'Poem In Your Pocket' Day

April 27, 2009 — Spread the words: Thursday, April 30, is "Poem In Your Pocket Day." Carry around a copy of a poem you love and share it with friends, teachers, co-workers and strangers.

A feature of National Poetry Month, the observance began in New York City.

If you haven't picked a poem, you can find one — wrapped in a scroll and tied with a bow — in Alderman, Clemons and the engineering and science libraries at the University of Virginia.

Also, students from the University Programs Council helped the staff at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library roll up the poems that will be given out at the U.Va. Medical Center, on the Downtown Mall and in branches of the public library.
