October 31, 2011 — Barbara J. Parker, the Theresa A. Thomas Professor of Primary Care Nursing in the University of Virginia School of Nursing, has been elected to a two-year term as co-chair of the American Academy of Nursing's expert panel on violence.
Parker's research focuses on domestic violence and health-care interventions.
The American Academy of Nursing's 1,800 fellows are the profession's most accomplished leaders in education, management, practice and research. More than 80 percent hold doctoral degrees, and the rest have completed master's programs. Sixty-four percent of the fellows work in academic settings, 30 percent in service and practice settings, and about 3 percent in state and federal government agencies.
