Construction Continues to Close Main Entrance to Central Grounds Parking Garage

June 25, 2010 — Construction will force closure of the Emmet Street entrance to the University of Virginia's Central Grounds Parking Garage for a second straight week.

The entrance will remain closed through July 4 while the contractor completes installation of pilings to support the expansion of the University Bookstore, located atop the parking structure. The garage's rear entrance off Newcomb Road will remain open.

Additionally, several utilities inside the lower level of the parking garage will be re-routed, which will impact several parking spaces at the garage's lower level.

The piling installation will create noise for areas immediately around the Central Grounds Parking Garage during work hours, from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Pedestrians can access the main stairs and elevators at the lower level of the parking garage during this work. The sidewalk along Emmet Street will remain open as well.

The work is weather-dependent and subject to change with inclement weather conditions.
