‘Hoo? What? Where?’ Hey New Wahoos, Learn About UVA’s ‘4th Side’

August 10, 2023 By Jane Kelly, jak4g@virginia.edu Jane Kelly, jak4g@virginia.edu

It’s getting real.

In a few short days, all the new Hoos in Hooville will be settling into their digs, making new friends, and learning the Wahoo way. A big piece of that is getting acquainted with the University of Virginia’s “4th Side.”

Typically, there are three sides to football: offense, defense and special teams. At UVA, there is a “4th Side,” and that’s the fans and the Cavalier sideline. The energy that flows from the 4th Side fuels the team on the field, making for an electric atmosphere.

The Class of 2027 will get an in-person introduction to what it means to be part of UVA’s 4th Side during an Aug. 18 pep rally at Scott Stadium, with introductions of coach Tony Elliot and the players.

To get your head in the game, solve this puzzle by finding six items in this photo from last year’s event and share the results with your family and friends.

Clues:

  • Gatorade bottles
  • 4th Side banner
  • V-Sabre #1
  • Pergola
  • V-Sabre #2
  • “Hoos”
  • I Surrender
