Barbara Ann Graham, a former nursing professor at the University of Virginia, died in Charlottesville Aug. 19.
A public health nurse, she returned to school and received a B.S. in nursing from the U.Va. School of Nursing. She then earned a master's degree in public health nursing from Emory University in 1971 and a Ph.D. in education in 1981 from U.Va. Graham joined the nursing faculty in 1971, where she taught until her retirement in 1994 as an associate professor emeritus.
Graham’s family recalled her as a fervent believer in the value of public health and community nursing, and said she cherished her years working with nursing students and faculty colleagues in these endeavors. Her publications and research were directed to health promotion, health education, home health and women's health, particularly the prevention of osteoporosis.
