July 22, 2009 — Dr. Roger Allan Ruth, 58, died, July 13 in Charlottesville. He served for more than 30 years as director of audiology and professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center.
His contributions to his profession were many and varied. He was a founding member of the American Academy of Audiology that bestowed upon him the Distinguished Achievement Award in 2008.
Throughout his career, Ruth maintained a clinical practice at U.Va., but when asked what he did for a living, he said he was a teacher.
