December 12, 2008 — Enno Edward Kraehe, University of Virginia W. Corcoran Professor of History from 1977 until 1991 and renowned scholar of European diplomatic history, especially Modern Germany and Austria, died Dec. 4 in Charlottesville.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the University of Virginia Chapel.
Kraehe was a leading researcher of the Congress of Vienna. His book, "Metternich's German Policy, Vol. I: The Contest with Napoleon 1799-1814," published by Princeton University Press in 1963, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. His second volume, "Metternich's German Policy, Vol. II: The Congress of Vienna, 1814-1815," published by Princeton in 1983, was honored with the Best Book Award of Phi Alpha Theta, the International History Honor Society, in 1985.
