In Memoriam: James Garrison Hagan

September 18, 2008 — James Garrison Hagan, 72, died at home Sept. 13 after battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia for 13 months.

Hagan was a professor at the McIntire Department of Art at the University of Virginia until he retired as professor emeritus in 2001. Some of his sculpture may be seen in the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., the Princeton Art Museum and many private collections. Originally hired in 1963 to teach sculpture, his expanding interest in electronic media led to his creation of a graphic arts program for U.Va.
