A few families of first-year students found hauling stuff into dorms was less taxing than expected. That’s because President Jim Ryan, members of UVA leadership and a battalion of football players lent muscle to the move.

With a mix of mirth and melancholy, University of Virginia first-year students settled into their dorms last week. For students and families alike, the emotional day closed one chapter in life and opened another.
