Naval ROTC Unit to Conduct Exercises on Observatory Hill

The University of Virginia’s Naval ROTC Unit will conduct a military training exercise along the tree line on Observatory Hill on Tuesday from 6 to 9 a.m.

Approximately 10 midshipmen will be using artificial rifles, with six inches of the barrel painted orange, among their equipment, which will also include small backpacks. The purpose of the exercise is to simulate combat assaults and woodland patrols.

The midshipmen, who will be wearing woodland camouflage uniforms, will conduct the exercise in the woods, on the trails and occasionally on the road near the McCormick Observatory, and may at times be visible to traffic on Observatory Hill.
