Tassels, Caps and Gowns: It’s the Finals Countdown

The countdown to Final Exercises is on for the University of Virginia’s Class of 2025. All this week, the soon-to-be grads are picking up their graduation regalia – caps, gowns and tassels – at Grad Fest 2025 at the University Bookstore.

Before taking that momentous walk down the Lawn in May, students are taking time to stroll down memory lane from the last four years.

“My main thing right now is that I need to make sure I stay connected to everyone I’ve become friends with over college,” Anjali Pagidi, a fourth-year computer science major, said. “My first year feels like literally yesterday. The time passes by like this (snaps) in college. I’m trying to enjoy my last semester; you know, we never get this time back.”

UVA’s Office of Engagement, Alumni Association, Class of 2025 Fourth-Year Trustees, President’s Office and the UVA Bookstore joined forces to make the traditional cap and gown week a special event.

“We want (Grad Fest 2025) to be a celebratory experience, providing fourth-year students with the information they need ahead of graduation and an exciting glimpse at life as alumni,” said Beth Zitzman, associate director for UVA Clubs in the Office of Engagement.

In addition to the graduation swag and information, degree candidates can also donate to the fourth-year class gift – a long-standing UVA tradition where students give back to the parts of the University that have meant the most to them. Students who choose to support the class gift receive a philanthropy cord to wear at Final Exercises.

Grad Fest continues at the University Bookstore Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Finals Weekend will be May 16 through May 18.
