December 1, 2010 — The outdoor emergency alert system at the University of Virginia has been upgraded, and to ensure it remains functional, a sound check will occur daily at 2 p.m., the Office of Emergency Preparedness announced Tuesday.
During the test, you will hear a tone for five to six seconds that sounds similar to a school bell. The daily sound test begins today and will continue indefinitely.
The new tone will be used only for testing and does not replace the siren and announcements that would be broadcast in an actual emergency.
