With advisers working in 63 high schools, the Virginia College Advising Corps has empowered more than 50,000 high school students to pursue higher education, backed by more than $573 million in financial aid.

The public service program, based at the University of Virginia, places recent college graduates in high schools to support students from first-generation, low-income and underrepresented backgrounds in accessing higher education.

Ludi Avagyan, a 2021 University of Virginia alumna affectionally known as “Ms. A” to her Louisa County students, is one of those recent graduates who served in the program. As a mentor, Avagyan did more than just guide her seniors through the college search and application process; she sparked their dreams and helped them see a path forward through higher education.

In tomorrow’s Weekend Edition of UVA Today, you’ll have the chance to meet Ms. A and see how she has helped her students take the next step toward a brighter future.
