Aug. 14, 2009 — A photographic work the size of a billboard. A high-definition video. 'Amazing' pop-up art. This is a sampling of the many works being featured in the University of Virginia Faculty Art Exhibition, showcasing works by 14 professors, that opens Aug. 28.

'We are doing this faculty show in a big way,' said Dean Dass, associate chairman of studio art and gallery director. 'It is our first faculty show in our new Ruffin Gallery. Last August, when we moved into Ruffin Hall, it was simply too chaotic to organize this exhibition. So we are now introducing our work here to our students for the first time.'

The exhibit runs through Sept. 18; the exhibit is free and open to the public. The opening reception for the exhibit will be held Aug. 28 at 5:30 p.m. Ruffin Gallery is on the third floor of Ruffin Hall, located on Culbreth Road.

A highlight of the exhibition is cinematography professor Kevin Everson's 22-foot photograph that has been printed as a billboard, Dass said.

Aaron Henderson and Carolyn Capps are new faculty whose works are in the exhibition, along with Amy Chan and Clay Witt, in their second year of visiting terms at U.Va.

In addition to these artists, other U.Va. faculty whose works are in the exhibition are William Bennett, Richard Crozier, Dass, Philip Geiger, Akemi Ohira Rollando, Pamela Pecchio, Eric Schmidt, Elizabeth Schoyer and William Wylie.
