U.Va. Lawn Residents to Host Annual Trick-or-Treating for Community

Oct. 29, 2007 — Ghouls and goblins will wander the Academical Village from 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 31 for the annual Halloween on the Lawn celebration.

Local children, escorted by adults, are invited to display their costumes and solicit treats from student Lawn residents, many of whom will also be in costume. There is no charge.

While no organized entertainment is planned, some Lawn residents will have areas with themed costumes, while others may offer face painting. Residents of the International Residential College will work with the International Rescue Committee to paint the faces of refugee children and bring them to the Lawn for trick-or-treating.

New this year: students and University officials have worked with the Charlottesville Food Allergy Network to provide treats that are free of peanuts, nuts, dairy and egg for youngsters with food allergies.

The Seven Society and the U.Va. Women’s Club provide candy for Lawn residents to hand out, and various University groups and organizations sponsor individual Lawn rooms.
