William Larkin Duren Jr., 102, a mathematics professor who became dean of arts and sciences at the University of Virginia and influenced a generation of math educators, died April 4 at the U-Va. Wednesday marks the first anniversary of the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech where a gunman killed 32 people. One of those killed was Dr. Kevin Granata, who was an engineer at the school. But before that, he was helping change the lives of children at the University of Virginia. Even in death, Granata's friends say his impact is still being felt at the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center in Charlottesville. There he used his knowledge about human motion to help people suffering from cerebral palsy.
