A charity hockey match Saturday at the Charlottesville Ice Park will raise money for cancer treatment research. The Cure Cup - in which the Sperry Marine Hockey Team will face the Richmond Hockey Fights Cancer Team - will benefit the Patients and Friends Research Fund at the University of Virginia Healthy System.

Nearly half of the Charlottesville area's employers are planning to hire new workers in the next three months, according to a survey by Manpower Inc. ... Former UVa guard J.R. Reynolds is waiting to hear his name in Thursday's NBA draft. Reynolds will make the trip to New York City for the 2007 draft. Some experts said that Reynolds is a probable late second round pick. Other say he might not be drafted at all.
Thursday afternoon, at several spots around Charlottesville, people can get free and confidential HIV testing. It is part of National HIV Testing Day, where the theme is "Take the Test, Take Control." The testing is offered by the Charlottesville/Albemarle Health Department and UVA's Ryan White Program. The test is a mouth swab, and the results come back in just twenty minutes.
...UVa had plans to set-up an alert system to inform the university community of an emergency before the Virginia Tech shootings. ...However, after April 16th they took an even closer look and sped up the process to make sure they protect everyone on grounds. The alert system is called E-2 and it works like this: if an emergency occurred the same message will be sent to cell phones, email accounts, and flat screens across grounds.
