Four Virginia baseball players were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft today. Casey Lambert, Beau Seabury, Mike Mitchell and Pat McAnaney were all drafted on Friday. A school record six Cavaliers were selected overall, including Sean Doolittle and Brandon Guyer, who were picked up on Thursday.
Congratulations to Virginia tennis star Somdev Devvarman. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Friday that Devvarman won the Men's National Player of the Year Award. Devvarman, the 2007 NCAA singles champion becomes the first player from the Atlantic Coast Conference to receive the accolade. He was 44-5 on the season, setting a new school record for most wins in a season.
The largest historic district in Virginia, which is in Albemarle County, was officially added to the Virginia Landmarks Register on Wednesday by the Department of Historic Resources. … The University of Virginia's Carr's Hill, which serves as John T. The University of Virginia's Board of Visitors on Friday unanimously elected John O. "Dubby" Wynne vice rector of the university, which means that Wynne is expected to succeed incoming Rector W. Some of the country's top minds gathered at UVA Thursday and Friday to discuss a national security strategy for a new administration. The two-day conference brought together journalists and former government employees to discuss the United States' role in global policy. The idea is to identify the biggest threats, come up with solutions and a plan of action for the country and the next president to follow.
The Miller Center for Public Affairs at the University of Virginia and MacNeil/Lehrer Productions have teamed up to produce a series of televised debates. The National Discussion and Debate series will address major issues facing the United States, including its role in the world, its responsibilities to its citizens and how it fulfills its founding principles.
